Movie: Pride and Prejudice

I was simply transported by this classic story given an entirely new life by a staggeringly talented cast. Breathtaking cinematography, lush music, wonderful staging, but you could have put these actors on plain cardboard boxes and it would have been spellbinding anyway. The two generations in juxtaposition...you get the sense that Keira Knightley and Rosamund Pike and Matthew MacFadyen and the other younger actors actually have the depth to evolve into Judi Dench and Brenda Blethyn and Donald Sutherland in the fullness of time.

My only real regret may sound funny, but I'm just sorry this movie wasn't longer. It was so immersing and lovely and funny and full of vitality, that it would have held me another hour easily. It moves at a relatively fast pace, and the romance between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy is only one of a dozen compelling stories that would have been equally wonderful to draw in detail. The world created here is one that begs to be lingered in.
